The Costume Quest series has a simple central idea: what if the Halloween costume really turned you into anything the costume portrays? The answer is a simple RPG in which you explore a world where the use of sugar and costumes is not allowed, with a lot of the expected charm of Double Fine. Unfortunately, Alec struggled with it a bit when it released 8 years ago, due to its combat and system being all too familiar from the first game:
I overcame the overwhelming urge to give up, because by the third stage it had finally moved from the all-too-familiar settings and structure to something a lot more playful. Its story involves time travel, Back To The Future: Part 2 is its time travel standard, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Of course, I don’t want to spoil all the fun, but by coming up with the idea that candy and costumes are outlawed and playing with the 1984 theme but no dentistry, it brought more breathing space for the trick. The concept has felt tired almost since the moment Costume Quest 2 began.
There’s a good chance if friend played the first game 12 years ago, which might make it less likely that those systems become too familiar.
Epic is offering 15 free games as part of their winter sale. Surname start free software with Bloons TD 6, a generous tower defense game that is one of the best rated games on Steam. The sale during the sale is pretty good too and includes a 25% off coupon for all games.
