Oura smooths its third generation smart ring
Oura, after years of trying, has finally found the tricky edge of her body-tracking smart ring. Company is updating third generation its ring, originally released in late 2021, but this time with a round body. Oura (Gen3) Horizon keeps the advanced sensor found in the existing model, but looks much better in the hand.
Most wearables, even the elegant ones, have one or two hard edges in their design because batteries and common components are built in rectangular shapes. While Oura 3 isn’t ugly, the tough side knocks it a point or two off its style metric., especially at certain angles, not pretty. And if the hoop slips around, it’ll dig into your knuckles while you’re working out, which isn’t ideal.
The ring itself is virtually unchanged from Gen3, which is not surprising given that it is equipped with a large amount of features that Oura herself is still trying to exploit. The company has offered new features throughout the year, including daytime and workout heart rate, cycle prediction, and blood oxygen sensors.
Our Horizon (Gen3) Ring is available to order now and costs $349, with the ring remaining at $299. Desired buyers can also pick it up in Silver, Black, Stealth, and Gold colors, with the Horizon getting the exclusive Rose Gold colorway, which looks pretty good. Not to mention you’ll still have to pay $5.99 per month to unlock all the features that the company keeps private for expert users.
