NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated the weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga for winning a gold medal at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and said he brought great pride and glory in his youth.
The 19-year-old weightlifter broke two Olympic records on his way to a sensational gold medal at the Commonwealth Games Birmingham when he added a second yellow metal to the count of votes. India on Sunday.

“In his youth he brought great pride and glory. Best wishes to him for his future endeavors,” said the Prime Minister.
The 2018 Youth Olympic champion dominated the men’s 67kg lift with a total lift of 300kg (140kg + 160kg), ahead of Vaipava Nevo Ioane of Samoa, who finished 293kg (127kg + 166kg).
Edidiong Joseph Umoafia of Nigeria won a bronze medal with a weight of 290kg (130kg + 160kg).
On Saturday, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu overcame the 49kg as expected to defend her Commonwealth Games title and take home India’s first gold medal of the Birmingham edition.
