Our favorite RPS videos from 2022

Hi! VidBud Liam here. You might recognize me from the autoplay videos on every page. Or not. I suppose it depends on how fast you scroll through.

I’ve been on the Arpus team since February, and it’s an exaggeration to say that the past 11 months have been a whirlwind. In less than a year, I’ve made less than 90 videos on a variety of topics from major releases to international gaming events and brand new hardware. Basically, my first year at RPS was very hectic. So when Katharine asked me to sum up some of my personal highlights, I was a bit confused. It’s hard to choose favorites! It’s even harder to celebrate my own achievements, but that’s the point.

I like to think the nine videos listed below will give you a good idea of the many things we’ve tackled in the video space in 2022 – and if you’re interested, we’ll have summary of 2022 from other parts, too. Anyway. Get yourself a hot and steady drink. There’s a lot here to cover!

Does anyone have time to start playing World Of Warcraft anymore?

Hands down, this is the video I’m most proud of this year. After months of talking about it, Ed and I finally came out Ad space, a brand new series in which the two of us try to discover how much space a giant live service game takes up in our daily lives. This first episode focuses on World of Warcrafta game that Ed had some experience with and a game that I unfortunately never played before we taped this episode.

This video is a tremendous job. Like, huge. Filming took at best a month, while writing, dubbing and editing added another week. Much of it is also completed outside of business hours, given the nature of the series requires us to try to experience these massive games in a way that is realistic for those who might want to try them out for themselves.

It pays off. I’m very pleased with the end result and I couldn’t ask for a better co-host than Ed, whose brain is essentially a machine that makes magical observations that I’m not smart enough for. to create yourself. Watch this space – episode two is done.

12 Elden Ring Tips And Tricks To Make It Easy For You To Conquer In The First 10 Hours

Ah, Elen’s ring. FromSoftware’s epic is the first big game I’ve covered for RPS in just a few weeks since I’ve been here. I’ll be honest, the stakes are high. How the hell can you claim to be a worthy successor to the likes of Colm Ahern and Matthew Castle? It’s a tough move to follow, believe me. Thankfully, this beginner’s guide was especially popular from the start, garnering millions of views on both the website and YouTube. In fact, it quickly became the most viewed video on the channel, reaching over a million hits in just a few days. In terms of authenticity, this video has greatly eased the fears of beginners.

Fun fact about this video: my best friend from elementary school, whom I haven’t talked to in over a decade, got in touch shortly after this video went live. He was randomly introduced at work and was shocked to hear my Northern accents coming through his headphones. Turns out he lives just a few blocks from me, and since then we’ve been talking regularly. Internet is good, really.

7 Reasons Why You’ll Love Tunic

Ao Dai is a difficult thing to deal with in video form. The real magic of the game lies in discovering its secrets spontaneously through play, which makes talking about (and looking for clips that don’t reveal the secrets that have been discovered) a way that still attracts viewers in an absolute way. However, I am really pleased with the end result of this video. I even have a reason to use my pirated Pokémon anecdote, which is a nice bonus.

Our eight favorite games from Not E3 2022

I’ve mentioned a few E3s before, but this year feels special for a few reasons. For starters, this is my first time becoming a full-time member of game media. But mostly, it’s because I caught Covid right before the show, and after a few days at home alone watching Geoff Keighley talk about space-based games, I crave any form of interaction. which society. Having the opportunity to chat with (basically) everyone on the staff about the games they were most excited about throughout the day was one of my highlights of the year, and the format worked. so much so that we have used it a few times since. My goal has always been to include more employees in my videos and this is the perfect reason to do so.

Team Fortress 2 Cast Reminisce on FPS’s lasting legacy

PAX East was particularly wild, as I was only part of the team for about six weeks before being pushed out of the treehouse and onto a transatlantic flight. I have too many anecdotes about our time in the states to share here, so I’ll leave two speaking videos instead. The first is an interview with Rachel and I with the cast of Fortress Team 2a game I played obsessively for years as a teenager. The second was a little documentary that Katharine and I made about collecting pins, it was an absolute pleasure to make.

Including shows is hard work, but it’s much easier when you have several friends who host videos with you. I am forever grateful to both Katharine and Rachel, who basically kept me awake during my long days on the runway. And a quick thank you to Jimmy, who carried his tripod and microphone around Boston even though that role was a far cry from his actual job title. A real champion.

Resident Evil 4 isn’t just a remake, it’s a visceral reconstruction | Practice preview

Evil 4 is my favorite game of all time. I was 13 when it first launched the GameCube and I would spend most weekends with my cousins shooting Ganados and running away from the rocks. “The game will never get better than this,” he once told me as Leon cautiously explored a medieval castle infested with parasitic monks. Having such a personal connection to the original game makes previewing its upcoming remake a daunting task. How do you measure the value of something that’s trying to recreate an experience that means so much to you? Turns out the answer is “very difficult”. I have rewritten this preview three times. I’m honestly surprised what it means.

We bought five slightly unusual floor accessories from Etsy

We have made quite a few videos about steam floor this year, and people seem to really like them. It helps hardware editor James have a voice so smooth that it can soothe all who hear it. My favorite set has to be this one, in which James surprised me with a bunch of popular Valve handheld accessories. By the way, is that a framed photo of Deck? Hanging on the edge of my desk. It makes me smile every time I look at it.

Oh, and the less said about my dubious attempt at growing a mustache, the better. Everyone hates it. Now it has disappeared.

Can we beat this game in time for a refund?

Since we publish all of our videos on YouTube, it might surprise me that I only do one Traditional let’s play this year. However, my short release of the meme on Steam was a success Refund me if you can seems to resonate with those who watch it. Actually it was CJ who asked me to make this video because he needed a video for his article about the game, and I’m glad he did. It’s classic, silly fun. Oddly enough, most of the views come from This Waypoint article so, uh. Thanks, deputy?

Our favorite scary moments while playing PC games

Another group RPS discussion, this time about our favorite scary moments from PC gaming. The conversation itself was interesting, but personally my favorite was the text I received from my fiancé while recording the intro that simply said, “I hate whatever you’re doing. do”.

Five indie games from 2022 you might have missed

@rockapershot Here are five indie games, released in 2022 that you might have missed. Be sure to check them out immediately. #Game #gaming #indie games #steam #calculator #pcgaming #switch ♬ original sound – Rock Paper Shotgun

I started creating a TikTok account for RPS in October, which immediately gained a surprising amount of momentum. It’s something that I’d like to focus on a little more in the new year, so I’ll share this less as a highlight and more of a threat to my future self. Liam, if you’re reading this, it’s time to make another 60 second video in the damned 9:16 aspect ratio. Yes, I know it goes against everything you’ve learned about making videos. No, Gen Z doesn’t care. Back to work. There is a good guy.

So! Your go. Too many words about too many videos. But you know what? It is a pleasure to have this opportunity to look back on my first year at RPS. What will 2023 hold? Who said. One thing’s for sure, though: I’ll stay here, making silly little videos about PC games. Thanks so much for watching. It really means a lot.
