Oshkosh builds hybrid-electric version of Light Tactical Vehicle

Wisconsin-based Oshkosh Corporation has unveiled a new hybrid-electric version of its Venture Light Tactical Vehicle, called eJLTV.

According to a press release issued Tuesday, eJLTV offers the US Army and US Marines the same level of performance and protection as the base JLTV with the addition of silent transmission, The extended silent meter, enhanced fuel economy and exportable power-ups allow it to be used in combat and reconnaissance situations.

The EJLTV charges the battery while in use, fully charging the lithium-ion battery within 30 minutes. This eliminates the need for charging infrastructure, which remains one of the most important challenges for the widespread electrification of tactical wheeled vehicles.

This year, the US Army plans to overhaul the JLTV program and give the next production contract in September 2022. The next contract, worth $6.5 billion, includes an additional 15,468 vehicles and five years of order, then five years of options, extending production to fiscal year 32.
