Irad Ortiz, Jr., who just returned from a 30-day suspension, will be sidelined for three to four weeks with a broken knee, according to a tweet from Daily race formMarty McGee.

The three-time Eclipse Award-reigning jockey was given 30 days for separate riding errors at the Aqueduct on December 3 and 4 and returned to the saddle at Gulfstream Park on Thursday, January 6. Ortiz, Jr. was on Shea On a Mission (Unthinkable quest) in Hallandale on 7 January and was injured when the sly 4-year-old became spoiled in the gate. He removed his remaining two mounts on Thursday and was eventually forced to ditch his mounts for Friday and Saturday.

If he remains sidelined until the end of January, Ortiz, Jr will miss the Pegasus World Cup meeting on January 29, at which he has been booked to ride ‘Rising star TDN’ and GI Breeders hero ‘Cup Dirt Mile Life is good (Naughty City).
