Ora Funky Cat scores five stars in Euro NCAP test

Newcomer from China Ora joined Tesla’s Model Y Get the highest score in the latest crash test rankings from Euro NCAP.

Ora’s Funky Cat – one year door hatchback that will be the opponent for those who like Kia Niro and recently released MG 4 – maximum five stars overall, with 83% for adult protection, 83% for children and 74% for vulnerable road users.

TeslaHowever, the Model Y has almost set a new standard overall, with 98% for safety assistance systems – a record of its own – plus 97% for adult protection, 87% for child protection and 82% for vulnerable road users.

The Funky Cat isn’t the only Chinese car to hit the top mark; Great Wall’s Wey Coffee 01, an internal combustion-engined SUV from Europe – earned five stars and outperformed Ora’s percentage scores in three key areas.

Matthew Avery, director of research strategy at NCAP partners Thatcham, Funky Cat and Wey Coffee 01 are all “impressive in terms of protection provided to occupants should an accident occur”. “This is comforting news for those concerned that a new wave of market entry from China could lower safety standards,” he added.

Another notable entry in the latest test series is the all-electric Genesis GV60 crossover. It has an overall five-star rating, despite only scoring 63% in terms of protecting vulnerable road users.
