Opposition hurting India reputation, says Rajnath on G20 logo row | India News

NEW DELHI / JHAJJAR: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has said that it is unfortunate and surprising that opposition parties try to fuel controversies for political gain even if it causes damage to the country’s reputation.
Singh, who inaugurated the statue of Prithvi Raj Chouhan at Jhajjar in Haryana on Sunday, said that seeing the lotus in the G20’s emblem, some people protested, which is unfortunate because it was declared the national flower in 1950. “Sounds strange, they want the lotus to be removed just because it’s a party symbol. By that logic, what about hands and cycles? ” he asks.
Congress has accused the BJP of promoting their vote symbolism, while the saffron party claims its opponents are smearing India’s national flower.
The defense minister affirms that protecting the national interest is the main focus of the BJP-led government and anyone with an eye on India will receive a proper answer.
“India is no longer weak. Our soldiers have proven time and time again,” Singh said while referring to the 2016 surgical attacks and the 2019 Balakot air raids. Indian soldiers in battle in the eastern Galwan Valley Ladakh.
Singh also said that to break away from colonial thinking, the Narendra Modi government has taken several initiatives, including a new Indian Navy rank inspired by the bravery of Maratha warrior, Chhatrapati Shivaji , the repeal of about 1,500 obsolete British laws, the renaming of Rajpath as the Kartavya Road and the installation of a large statue Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at the Gateway of India.
“More than 1,500 ancient laws dating back to British rule, completely obsolete, have been repealed. There are many such laws for which we are preparing a program. We will also get rid of these,” the minister said.
Introducing Haryana and Jhajjar as the land of the brave, the Defense Minister said that many people from the region have sacrificed their lives to protect the borders of the country. “In the Galwan valley, when there was a stalemate, our forces showed their bravery and valor,” he said.
Referring to Pakistan, he said, “…And you have seen since India gained independence, Pakistan has pushed terrorists into Jammu & Kashmir to cause trouble and create instability.”
