OnePlus 10 Pro is thinner but Pixel 6 Pro stands out with its unique design

The OnePlus 10 Pro has a large 6.7-inch display, making it one of the taller smartphones you can buy. However, the 20:9 aspect ratio makes the phone a bit thinner than other flagships and in OnePlus 10 Pro Review, we found that this makes one-handed use more comfortable. This compares to the slightly wider Pixel 6 Pro, which uses a 19.5:9 aspect ratio for its 6.71-inch panel. While it’s not a compact phone, the 10 Pro is at least a better choice if you value a device that fits better in your hand.

With that said, anyone who wants to stand out from the crowd will find the Pixel 6 Pro to do just that. Its squared corners and larger rear camera bar are unlike many phones on the market today, while its two-tone Sorta Sunny, Stormy Black and Cloudy White offer a unique look. That’s a stark difference from the rounded corners, rectangular camera buttons, and monotone tones of the OnePlus 10 Pro.

TL; DR The OnePlus 10 Pro is easier to hold, but the Pixel 6 Pro has a more attractive design.

The display is great on both phones, but the OnePlus 10 Pro is brighter

Max Buondonno / CNN is underrated

Both the Pixel 6 Pro and the OnePlus 10 Pro have great displays. They all use AMOLED panels for deep blacks and vibrant colors, 120Hz refresh rate for smoothness, and 1440p resolution for sharp text and images. I played the Doctor Strange and Multiverse of Madness trailers on both side-by-side and their differences were barely discernible. You really can’t go wrong with either.

The slight difference is in the brightness department, as the OnePlus 10 Pro is capable of reaching 1300 nits when playing HDR content. Meanwhile, the Pixel 6 Pro can hit around 1100 nits when viewing content in HDR. The 10 Pro is also slightly better at auto-brightness, with the phone being able to adjust to rapidly changing lighting conditions better than the Pixel. These differences are a bit hard to notice on a daily basis, but in harsh conditions like direct sunlight, it’s always helpful to have the extra brightness – and the OnePlus 10 Pro gives you that.

TL; DR: Both devices have exceptional displays with bright colors and stunning contrast, but if you need more brightness, the OnePlus 10 Pro is the right choice.

Similar performance between both phones

Max Buondonno / CNN is underrated

If you pick the OnePlus 10 Pro and Pixel 6 Pro without knowing their specs, you’ll be hard-pressed to find any real difference in performance. That’s because both are excellent performers with enough power to handle any type of workload.

The devices vary in specs, with the OnePlus 10 Pro shipping with Qualcomm’s latest 1st Gen Snapdragon 8 processor and Google’s in-house Pixel 6 Pro SoC Tensor. The former comes with 8GB of RAM, while the latter has a bit more headspace with 12GB. They also come with 128GB of storage by default.

In our testing, we couldn’t find any significant speed difference between the phones. Applications load quickly, animations are smooth, multitasking is easy, and heavier tasks like playing graphically intensive games will handle themselves well. Even their Geekbench scores are similar: the Pixel 6 Pro scored 1046 on single-core and 2923 on multi-core, while the OnePlus 10 Pro scored 987 on single-core and 3264 on multi-core.

TL; DR: Both phones offer solid performance with enough RAM and storage to handle whatever task you throw at them.

Similar battery life, but OnePlus 10 Pro wins when charging

OnePlus 10 Pro

We also found battery life to be similar across phones. The OnePlus 10 Pro and Pixel 6 Pro each last a full day on a single charge after which there isn’t much left in the battery, and they have similarly sized batteries at 5,000mAh versus 5,003mAh.

However, OnePlus has a significant advantage in recharging, with the included 65W SuperVOOC fast charger. For comparison, the Pixel 6 Pro only supports up to 30W charging, and you’ll have to purchase a supported charger separately. Furthermore, the 10 Pro offers 50W fast wireless charging while the Pixel is stuck with 23W.

In everyday use, this makes a huge difference. While the Pixel 6 Pro went from 0 to 100% in over an hour using wired charging, the OnePlus 10 achieved the same feat in just 38 minutes. If you find yourself recharging throughout the day, you’ll appreciate the 10 Pro even more.

TL; DR The Pixel 6 Pro and OnePlus 10 Pro offer almost all-day endurance, but OnePlus tries to take the throne with its excellent (and fast) 65W wired charging.

Pixel 6 Pro outperforms OnePlus in software

Jacob Krol / CNN

Google has been the king of the Android software experience for many years, and it continues to hold the crown when compared to the OnePlus 10 Pro. In our review, we found the OxygenOS version of the 10 Pro to feel much bulkier than previous versions, with the nauseating animations and heavy skin on Android 12. The experience suite feels like it has dropped a few steps in quality, which is quite a shame.

In contrast, the Pixel 6 Pro continues to thrive just like any Pixel. The great Google software experience is smooth, the icons are clean and minimal, and apps often feel faster and better supported.

The Pixel is also smarter than the OnePlus offering, with useful features like Now Playing (a song identifier built into the lock screen), Call Screening (advanced caller ID provided by the Assistant). level) and Magic Eraser (the ability to erase unwanted objects and subjects from photos using AI).

Plus, the Pixel 6 Pro will be the first for any major Android upgrade that Google ships. That means you’ll be getting the Android 13 release this summer on the Pixel much sooner than on the OnePlus 10 Pro. Overall, if you value software quality, then the Pixel is a phone worth owning.

TL; DR Pixel 6 Pro delivers a superior software experience and guarantees access to daily Android updates.

Pixel 6 Pro wins in camera quality, while OnePlus 10 Pro has more flexible controls

Max Buondonno / CNN is underrated

The OnePlus 10 Pro is one of the few flagship smartphones that can’t keep up with its competitors in the camera department. That’s especially true when comparing it to the Pixel 6 Pro which continues to be one of the best on the market.

With a 50MP main sensor, a 48MP 4x telephoto sensor, and a 12MP ultra-wide, the Pixel 6 Pro is capable of taking great photos. Colors are vivid and contrast is adjusted to perfection, typical of Google’s handling of HDR. Furthermore, night photography remains one of the Pixel’s strongest points, so anyone who takes a lot of photos at night should consider what Google has to offer.

The OnePlus 10 Pro’s camera system isn’t exactly bad, but it can’t hold the Pixel’s position. Its 48MP main lens, 8MP 3.3x telephoto lens, and 50MP ultra-wide lens make for good photos in well-lit environments, but things tend to fall apart when the light starts to dim. Processing feels a bit messy, with colors sometimes being rendered inaccurately and feeling a bit overexposed.

Where OnePlus has the edge over Google is the camera control. The interface of the Pixel 6 Pro is very basic, with only a handful of controls available like exposure and zoom to lock in the photo you want to capture before tapping the shutter button. Meanwhile, the 10 Pro comes with the full Pro shooting mode offered by Hasselblad, giving you much more granular control over the images you capture.

TL; DR While OnePlus offers a great range of manual camera controls on the 10 Pro, Google leads the way when it comes to the overall quality of photos and videos with the Pixel 6 Pro.

Key point

Both these phones are solid flagships, but differ quite a bit in certain regions. Anyone who is buying a phone with excellent cameras, great software and a unique design with bold colors will look no further. Pixel 6 Pro. Others may prefer the sleeker design, more flexible camera controls, and lightning-fast charging should take a look OnePlus 10 Pro.
