MANILA, Philippines–Strengthened by her recent win and one-time podium at the Hanoi Southeast Asian Games, Jenelyn Olsim remains hopeful she can pull off more than one win on Saturday night this week.
The famed Team Lakay striker is hoping she can deliver a decisive finish as she takes on Meng Bo in a mixed martial arts match of the ONE 164 tournament on Saturday. at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
“Looking back at my past matches, I realize that I still need to exploit my subjugation and finishing techniques,” she told the Inquirer in a mix of Filipino and Ilocano.
“All my previous wars were resolved by decision. And they always say that as much as possible, one should avoid letting the judge decide,” she added. “So I really want to end my battle from now on.”
Olsim herself, a striker, cut the job for her when she went up against a knockout artist in Bo. But the national muay thai athlete was undeterred.
“People think she is a heavyweight boxer. Seeing her fight, I think that’s right. All of her previous matches ended in a knockout,” Olsim said.
“I think I’ll have to watch out for her boxing skills. But at the same time, I knew I could keep up. Nothing is impossible without training and a sound game plan.”
“It would be great to do engineering [in this fight],” Olsim teased.
