Eddie supports his son Eric’s relationship
Based on EVERYBODY, Eddie recently sat down for an exclusive interview with King Gayle on ‘CBS Mornings.’
In a conversation with King, the legendary actor discussed his son by Eric Murphy relationship with Martin Lawrence’s daughter Lawrence Jasmine. Each Tonight’s reception, The ‘Coming to America’ star was initially supportive of them and found it interesting how their relationship started, noting that Martin felt the same way.
“We just thought, ‘This is great. They’re both beautiful. They look great together,'” Eddie said.
During the interview with King, Eddie also discussed the potential future if Erica and Jasmin got married and had children.
“It’s funny, everyone’s like, ‘What, is the baby funny?’ Like, our gene pool alone is going to make this funny baby. If they get married and decide to have a baby, I expect the baby to be funny,” Eddie continued.
PEOPLE magazine reported that Martin seemed to echo Eddie’s sentiments when he appeared on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ in 2022, joking about the possibility of their children creating a “super funny baby” in the future.
Martin has accepted his daughter’s relationship with Eddie’s son, but has said that he wants to stay out of their business and respect what they do. However, he later joked that if and when their wedding takes place, he will try to get Eddie to pay.
Fans of Eddie and Martin know about their shared history. They appeared together in two films, ‘Boomerang’ in 1992 and ‘Life’ in 1999.

Eddie has a total of ten children, including Eric, his eldest son from a previous relationship with Paulette McNeely. Meanwhile, Jasmin is Martin’s eldest daughter from his marriage to Patricia Southall. Martin also has two daughters with his ex-wife, Shamicka Gibbs.
Eric Murphy and Jasmin went public with their relationship in June 2021, with Eric posting a selfie with Martin Lawrence’s daughter on Instagram. In the caption, Eric wrote: “I love you deeply. #my_other_half #is_equal_to_you #I_love_you.”
In January 2022, Jasmin announced InTouch Weekly that she originally met Eric through her uncle, and that their fathers really played no role in sparking their relationship.
“Not even through our dads. And they did two movies together, they were friends,” Jasmin Lawrence explains.
