Beyonce Moniker Inspires OMG Girlz
The Shade Room Teens Social Media Director, Taylor Beckhamshred it exclusively with Bahja Rodriguez, Zonnique Pullins, and Breaunna Womack as friends recall the day Beyonce thanked them for being the inspiration behind her first Instagram nickname, “Baddie Bey.” In case you missed, the group’s song “Baddie” went viral in April 2013 with purple, pink, and blue-haired teenagers saying the phrase in a song. However, Breaunna credits famed choreographer Sean Bankhead, who referred to his dancers as “baddies” in youtube videos of the early 2010s. She says the group simply put it on. mainstream and used the phrase often in interviews – even calling Bey “baddie” when they did a west coast radio broadcast.
Bahja, 25, added that they took the phrase “baddie” and made it popular with their song and during the promotional tour that Beyonce noticed.
“We put ‘baddie’ first. Beyonce said it herself. She wrote us a letter… Her Instagram name is Baddie Bey because that’s what we’re calling her. For Beyonce it was a complete surprise but I know that we are all ORDER.”
Breaunna, 27, recalls the moment Bey admitted they inspired her IG name with a handwritten letter. Notes written with markers are something they find very thoughtful and leave them speechless.
“I remember we were in the cabin and we got the call – the letter she sent to our manager.”
Beyonce even sang the letter as “Baddie B.”
