Grandview Equine, Cheyenne Stables and LNJ Foxwoods’ Olympiad (Sightstown) will aim for a fourth straight win as he tops field eight in GII Alysheba S. at Churchill Downs Friday. The 4-year-old opened the year with an optional elective score at Gulfstream on Jan. 15 and took another win in GIII Feb. 19 Mineshaft S. and March 26 GII New Orleans Classic S. at Fair Grounds. The one likely to take the lead in the 1/16-mile race, the Olympiad will start first at Churchill Downs.
Wertheimer and Frere’s Happy Saver (Super Saver), who won the first five of his career, including the 2020 GI Jockey Club Gold Cup, lost his undefeated title by finishing 3rd at GII Suburban H. in July. last year. A runner-up defending his Gold Cup title last September and again at GI Clark H. in November, the 5-year-old will look to return to the wins during his 2022 debut in Alysheba.
Max Player (Honor code), who finished fifth in the 2020 GI Kentucky Derby in his only previous start at Churchill Downs, won the Gold Cup and Countryside last year, but never made the list when he finished eighth in The GI Breeders’ Cup Classic on Nov. 6. Both of his 2021 qualifying wins are 1 1/4 miles and Alysheba’s 1/16-mile run will be his shortest ride since since the first pass crossed a mile in December 2019.
