Oleksandr Usyk Vs. Tyson Fury targets no earlier than February 18 and no later than March
Via Charles Brun: Oleksandr Usyk’s trainer Egis Klimas confirmed that his undisputed heavyweight title fight against Tyson Fury will take place no earlier than February 18 and no later than March.
If that doesn’t happen by then, IBF, WBA & WBO champion Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) will likely move on to bigger and better things, perhaps going head to head with Deontay’ The Bronze Bomber’ Wilder or Canelo Alvarez.
Usyk has no time to waste trying to fight Fury if the 6’9 WBC champion is set to play the game with negotiations.
Klimas pointed out that Fury chose not to wait a few months to face Usyk next. Instead of waiting, Fury decided to fight the journeyman Derek Chisora on December 3, potentially putting the Usyk clash in jeopardy in early 2023.
If Fury gets injured against Chisora, it will ruin Usyk’s plans for an undisputed early clash with him next year.
While Fury-Chisora is a terrifying mismatch on paper, there’s always the possibility that Fury could suffer a severe cut or injury to the shoulder, biceps, or hand.
“Anything that comes out of Tyson Fury’s mouth doesn’t mean s**t,” Egis Klimas said to Boxing ID. “I don’t think it’s going to be a tough fight for Tyson Fury. What, he hit the third time? “Klimas said when asked about his thoughts on Fury fighting 38-year-old cruiser Derek Chisora on December 3. “It shouldn’t have been different.
“Not earlier than February 18, not later than March 4,Klimas said when asked when Fury vs. Usyk will take place.
“Immediately after [Anthony Joshua] fight, Usyk said, “Tyson, let’s unite the titles. Let’s fight.’ Then Tyson turned around and wanted to give orders.
“He said, ‘Let’s fight until the end of the year,’ and Oleksandr’s point was, ‘Look, I’ve been preparing for this fight with Joshua for a long time. I need to recover, I need to prepare.’ prepared for war and I need to return to serve in my country I have a lot of work to do on the front lines.
“’I can’t jump from camp to camp and start training again. In that case, do that fight in February. I’m ready to go out in February and fight. ‘ Instead of waiting a few months, Tyson decided he wanted to go and wanted to fight a hectic fight, a ‘keep me in shape’ fight.
“But it’s fine; let him do it. On our side, everything is done. We agreed with the promoters, let’s try together, move forward. The only one. holding that right is now at the discretion of Tyson Fury,” Klimas said.
