Oleksandr Usyk ‘looks like a robot’ after intense bout for Anthony Joshua rematch | Boxing News
Oleksandr Usyk trained “like a robot” for his rematch with Anthony Joshua, live and exclusive on Sky Sports Box Office this Saturday.
His promoter Alex Krassyuk has never seen a heavyweight champion as motivated as he is for this fight.
Usyk took down Joshua spectacularly in September to win the WBO, IBF and WBA heavyweight belts. He left negotiations for a rematch earlier this year to return to Ukraine when Russia invaded his homeland.
After volunteering with the Territorial Defense Force, he left his country specifically to train for this match against Joshua and represent Ukraine on the world stage.
“He made the decision to rematch in these cases after receiving great support from the Ukrainian military,” said his promoter Krassyuk Sports sky.
“He communicates with senior officers, he visits hospitals with wounded fighters, he talks to fans and in every conversation he hears words of support. and good luck for the rematch.
“Everybody wants him to fight. Everyone wants him to win. Everyone wants the Ukrainian flag to be raised and the Ukrainian national anthem to be played across the planet.”
Usyk will battle Joshua on Saturday to deliver a message.
“The whole world must know that Ukraine is a country of free, transparent, strong, spiritual and developed people. There are not too many men who can convey these messages. Usyk is and he does it through sport,” Krassyuk said.
Faced with a task beyond boxing, Usyk prepared with unexpected ferocity.
“We watched his recently posted videos and realized that he looks like a robot,” his promoter said.
“He’s been through hell for the past three months. And it hasn’t killed him but made him stronger. I’ve never seen him more determined than he is now.”
“There aren’t too many champions in the world who can share the experience of getting through the fight and getting into the ring to defend the heavy crown. It’s an exclusively complicated task. But it looks like he He got through it the right way.”
Usyk is fighting for a place in history. “That doesn’t sound fair to me as I’ve been his promoter since starting his professional career in 2013. [to comment on that]”, Krassyuk said.
“Let history judge how special he is.”
