When it comes to awesome clothing basics, I’m always on the hunt for the perfect item. Whether it’s a jeans that goes with absolutely anything, Jumpsuit Whether it’s clothes to wear up or down, or a jacket that can carry me through all seasons, the shopper in me never rests. Over the past few years, I’ve spent $90 (yes, $90) on what I think is the “perfect” basic t-shirt. I thought I had found the holy grail of t-shirts, so I kept repurchasing it year after year, despite my wallet screaming in protest. I recently decided to start looking for a better, more affordable option, and I stumbled across an absolute gem: Old Navy’s All-day short-sleeved UltraLite ribbed knit t-shirt (12 dollars).
When I first received it in the mail, my expectations were definitely low. I’ve bought a ton of basics over the past few months, and nothing compares to my beloved high-priced t-shirt. However, as soon as I unpacked, I knew this shirt would become one of my most worn pieces in my closet. The material is incredibly soft and stretchy, and it feels more expensive than it really is. But the first time I tried it was when I knew I needed to buy it in more colors right away.
This shirt is a ribbed knit crew neck, with short sleeves and a cropped, curved shirt hem. The curved hem instantly becomes one of my favorite features, because it gives the shirt a little extra something. The cropped length of the t-shirt perfectly matched the leggings I was wearing at the time, and when I tried it on with high-waisted jeans, I knew I had found the perfect outfit.
I have practically styled these shirts with everything I own, but my favorite way to wear gray is with a pair of jeans and sneakers. I styled a black t-shirt with cropped leather trousers and jacket, and it made my outfit look so chic and well matched.
When it comes to keeping these t-shirts in their best shape, I wash them in cold water and put them in the dryer. I have found that they are extremely durable: I have not had any problems with caking, holes, or shrinking. Honestly, they still look as great as the day I first got them. I honestly couldn’t believe how affordable they were – I was completely ready to give up my expensive t-shirts for these amazing ones from Old Navy.
As for the size, I bought my regular XS and it fits perfectly, so I would say these run true to size. They come in sizes XS-4X, as well as normal, tall, and petite.
If you’re looking for the perfect basic t-shirt that looks great and doesn’t break the bank, go ahead with your wardrobe and pick up one in every color before I buy them all.
