Old Friends Welcome Retirement Farm Get Western


Old Friends Retirement Farm announced on social media about the addition Get Western to the Kentucky ranch.

Get Stormy gelding wins stakes won $241,500 Old Friends Staking at Kentucky Downs in 2019, making him retire for life at Old Friends, a tweet from the retirement farm said. The race was his fourth and final victory. A memorable image by Coady Photography of the race captured him jumping a shadow close to the finish line.

He retired earlier this year at the age of 7 after finishing ninth in an optional allowance race at Lawn Park February 17th for owner Diane Pitfield and coach Reeve McGaughey.

“When a second career at (Secretary Center) came to an end due to sound problems, our promise to Get Western was fulfilled. He went home!” Read part of the farm’s tweets.

Bred in Kentucky by Barr Inman in addition to Marquetry mare Marquetessa Get Western ended its career with $298,641 in earnings.

Old Friends offers retirement benefits to Thoroughbreds whose racing and breeding careers have ended. Classic winners Birdstone, Sarava, Silver Charm and Touch Gold are among the winners at the farm. With education and tourism, the farm aims to raise awareness about horse care.
