Ohio St. QB CJ Stroud consensus favorite to win Heisman

It was 16 years since an Ohio State Buckeye captured the Heisman Trophy. With the official 2022 college football season less than a week away, the odds are now in favor of Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud to take home the hardware.

According to ESPN’s David Purdum, Stroud has odds of +200, followed by last year’s winner, Alabama quarterback Bryce Young (+430) and USC signal caller Caleb Williams (+700).

“However, Alabama winger Will Anderson Jr. has drawn more bets than any other player at Caesars Sportsbook, where the odds of the Crimson Tide star have improved from 60-1 to 22. -1 this season At DraftKings Anderson has drawn more bets and more bets Only one defensive player has won the Heisman Trophy: Michigan’s Charles Woodson (who also started again) in 1997,” Purdum wrote.

Stroud is in fourth place in the 2021 Heisman vote behind Young, Aidan Hutchinson and Kenny Pickett. Hutchinson was picked second by the Detroit Lions in the 2022 NFL draft, while Pickett was the first quarterback to be taken off the table in 20th place by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

According to Purdum, more than 20% of the bets at Caesars Sportsbook went to Stroud, who threw 4,435 yards with 44 touchdowns last season.

“Stroud attracted almost 10 times as much stakes as Young at Caesars. Young crossed 4,872 yards with 47 touchdowns last season en route to the Heisman Trophy. Just one player – Archie Griffin of Bang Ohio (1974 and 1975) – won the Heismans in a row.”
