Off duty police shout ‘I’ll kill you!’ Before shooting the man dead

Newly released video shows the shocking moment when a mission Chicago The police officer fatally shot a man when he allegedly snatched her gun during a stand-off last month, telling the man “I’ll kill you!” before unloading her gun.

Police live in the Brainerd neighborhood, where the incident happened, shortly before 1 p.m. on January 18, according to police.

“I’ll kill you!” Chicago police off duty told man before shooting him when he tried to get her gun

CBS news reported that police on duty discovered a robbery was taking place in front of an apartment building and attempted to intervene. That’s when authorities say the suspect was shot while fighting over a police gun.

“I’ll kill you!” shouted the officer. “Honey, I’m sorry,” replied Leevon Smith, the victim of the shooting. “I’m sorry. …I don’t want to die.”

Police Civil Liability Office (COPA) eventually released multiple video clips of the deadly shooting, with footage from a nearby building showing police attempting to intervene in an altercation between the four.

Leevon Smith, 39, was among four people who were shot dead.

The other three had left the scene shortly before the fatal shooting, and when the officer arrived to speak to Smith, he grabbed her as the two began to struggle.

Smith can be seen trying to reach for the officer’s gun before three shots are fired.

Although the audio and video on the clip are not properly synced, the officer on duty, who has not been publicly named, can be clearly heard shouting at him.

“I will kill you,” after Smith grabbed her gun. “Didn’t I just say I would kill you?” she said after firing three shots.

Police report says Smith posed ‘imminent battery threat’, even without a weapon

Immediately after the shooting, the officer can be heard begging anyone in the vicinity to call the police, and that she “told (Smith) she was going to shoot him**” while accusing him of trying to rob her.

“Call the police, I just shot someone!” and “I just told you I was going to shoot yours – you tried to rob me!”

A tactical response report said that Smith posed an “imminent battery threat”, even without a weapon, when he attacked the officer. It describes the incident as an ambush without prior warning, according to News ABC 7.

The officer, who joined the force last June, was treated for a cut above his right eye at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, according to the arrest report.

The officer did not provide any form of aid to the shot victim as they waited for EMS

She could then be heard repeatedly claiming that Smith tried to steal her gun while continuing to scream for someone to call the police.

Minutes later, an ambulance appeared, but the officer made no attempt to assist Smith as they waited for EMS to arrive.

Smith was transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition, but his health continued to decline despite hospitalization.

He died two days later, according to authorities.

The officer involved has been assigned to routine administrative duties for 30 days, the Chicago Police Department said last month.

Meanwhile, Smith’s estate filed a lawsuit against the city and the officer on February 3, asking for a $10 million sentence, ABC News 7 reported.
