The Ocala Sales Company Spring Sales for 2-year-olds training will begin a four-day run on Tuesday with sessions starting at 10:30 a.m. daily.
This sale follows OBS’s very strong March Sale, where 378 minors grossed $49,941 million, including four seven-figure sellers.
Tod Wojciechowski, Sales Manager of OBS said: “The March sale was very good. “There was a lot of activity at all levels in March and we expect that strength to carry over into April.”
There was a high level of activity on OBS premises leading up to the March Sale, and shippers saw the same during last week’s seven-day spring sale.
“There was a good buzz in the March sale, better than we’ve had in a short while,” said Jesse Hoppel of Coastal Equine. “I feel the same kind of environment coming here in April. I anticipate another strong horse sale.”
With 1231 chicks in the catalog, the Spring Sale is a big show on the calendar each year for both buyers and sellers.
“The April sale is the biggest two-year-old sale in the world and probably the most effective,” Wojciechowski said. “If people could only attend a 2-year-old sale, this would probably be the one they would attend. Shippers are always impressed. Every year they surpass themselves by the quality of the horses they bring. ”
Last year, a $1.5 million spring sale for Corniche topper (Quality Sugar) went on to win the Eclipse Award for the top 2-year-old male after a perfect three-three season capped by victory in the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. Spring Sale Graduation Country Grammer (Tonalist) won the G1 Dubai World Cup in this period after finishing second behind seller OBSAPR Emblem Road (Quality Sugar) at the G1 Saudi Cup a month earlier.
“We won one of the two teams in the Saudi Cup, winning the G1 Dubai World Cup,” Wojciechowski said. “There are winning horses around the world coming from the April sale.”
At the Spring 2021 sale, a total of 724 minors changed hands for a total of $73,874,900. The median is $102,037 and the median is $50,000.
The open session on Tuesday will offer Hips 1-308, followed by Hips 309-616 on Wednesday, Hips 617-924 on Thursday, and Hips 925-1231 on Friday.
