NYRA Cancel Aqueduct Friday & Saturday Due to Weather
New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) has canceled Friday and Saturday’s live races at the Aqueduct Raceway due to forecasts of high winds and frigid temperatures that will affect the New York metropolitan area. The National Weather Service (NWS), in line with forecasts provided by NYRA’s independent weather services, is calling for wind chill values of 0 to 10 degrees on Friday with gusts of up to 37 mph, while Saturday’s forecast includes wind chill values of 8 to 10 degrees. 10 degrees with sustained high winds throughout the day.
As a result, the NYRA canceled the eight-race card on Friday and the nine-race card on Saturday in the interest of the safety of all participants. Aqueduct Racetrack will remain open to simulate those dates. Saturday’s Standout 3, the $150,000 Withers, which offers 20-8-6-4-2 Kentucky Derby qualifying scores for the top five finishers, will be returned on Saturday, February 11th. Entries for Withers will be made on Wednesday, February 8th. The $100,000 worth of Cruelty will be back on Sunday, February 5th, with entries. Item will be made today.
The live race at the Aqueduct will proceed as scheduled this afternoon with the eight races card on Thursday having its first post at 12:50 p.m. EST.
