NYC man, 55, arrested for trying to kill diner he brutally beat outside diner


Police have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder after he followed another restaurant patron out before brutally beating him in a wordless attack – killing him. We have a broken skull.

Bui Van Phu, 55, a registered sex offender from the Bronx, was arrested in connection with the unprovoked assault on Friday, August 12.

The NYPD confirmed that it had arrested Phu after releasing footage of the horrifying incident.

Police were called at 10:45 a.m. to reports of a 52-year-old man being assaulted in front of the Fuego Tipico restaurant on 163 East 188 Street, Bronx.

The victim was found unconscious and unresponsive on the ground following the unprovoked attack with head injuries and taken to hospital.

The horrifying video of the chase captures the moment Phu put on a pair of gloves and swung very hard, hitting the victim’s head.

He then immediately fell to the floor, seemingly unconscious, hitting his head on the concrete after the surprise attack.

The suspect, wearing a black T-shirt and black pants, left the restaurant shortly after the victim was chatting with several other people.

The NYPD claimed that he ‘without prior conversation or interjection’ punched the victim in the face, before ‘going back to the restaurant and then to unspecified parts’.

Police are still appealing for anyone with information about the incident to proceed.

Just before the attack, Phu fixed his position behind his victim, before delivering a vicious blow in front of a group of other people outside the restaurant.

The victim suffered a skull fracture, cheek fracture, and brain bleed, EMS took him to Medical + NYC/Jacobi Hospital.

He is currently in a critical but stable condition, and investigations into the brutal attack are underway.

Phu was previously convicted in March 1995 of sexual abuse in the first degree.

A spokesperson for the restaurant Fuego Tipico declined to comment when contacted by DailyMail.com.

An NYPD spokesman said: ‘It is known to police that at approximately 10:45pm on Friday, August 12, 2022, police responded to a 911 call from a man who was assaulted in front of the Fuego Restaurant. Tipico is located at 163 Eat 188 Street.

‘After further investigation, the victim came out of the restaurant, stopped and observed several people talking, at which point one person came out of the restaurant wearing a pair of gloves and standing behind the victim.

‘Without prior conversation or interjection, this person punched the victim in the face before returning to the restaurant and then to unspecified parts.

‘The victim suffered a skull fracture, a broken cheek bone and bleeding in the brain.

‘EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where he is listed in critical but stable condition, investigation is continuing.

‘Individual is described as: Mature male, medium skin tone, average build and partially bald.

‘He was last seen wearing black pants, a black T-shirt and gloves. ”
