Nvidia RTX 4060 Ti GPU leak makes PC gamers angry
Nvidia’s RTX 4060 Ti Is The Latest Lovelace GPU became the subject of a flurry of information regarding its purported specs, as rumors about the RTX 4000 range continued to appear dense and fast.
This speculation is from Kopite7kimi, an expert who regularly talks about Twitter’s hardware leaks, and it provides quite a few details (tips for VideoCardz (opens in a new tab) to detect tweets).
The RTX 4060 Ti has a very short reference sheet. The PG190 still uses the CEM5 connector. AD106-350-A14352FP328G 18Gbps GDDR632M L2220WDecember 13, 2022
Going into this with plenty of spice in hand, but as you can see, the GPU used is AD106 (AD106-350-A1 to be exact) and we have a CUDA Core count of 4,352, along with 8GB GDDR6 video RAM (at 18Gbps). TGP is pegged at 220W.
As VideoCardz pointed out, previous leaks have suggested that the AD106 GPU will run with a 128-bit memory bus, theoretically giving the RTX 4060 Ti 288GB/s.
We were also told that the RTX 4060 Ti had a “very short” reference sheet.
Analysis: There’s still a long way to go for this GPU
The purported specs shown here have caused frustration as a general reaction out there.
Naturally, we should be skeptical of any rumored specs – and we should keep in mind that this is still an early stage of development for the RTX 4060 Ti, as far as we know, so even when true, the specs floating around here can still be altered by Nvidia down the line.
The CUDA Core count itself has caused some complaints, but we can’t judge the card’s power purely based on that spec. Yes, it actually has less cores than RTX 3060ti (there are 4,864) according to this leak, but there are generational architecture improvements to take into account and all the other GPU specs.
One more takeaway for many is that that seemingly meager 8GB of VRAM and memory bandwidth usage, possibly an unfortunate combination – despite the much boosted L2 cache, 32MB, could be a useful increase over the 4MB 3060 Ti. Furthermore, we should add more salt here, as the bandwidth calculation is based on the previously rumored spec, which makes things more wobbly.
Either way, gamers out there weren’t happy with the 3060 Ti using 8GB, let alone the more powerful 4060 Ti. But either way, broad expectations are for a graphics card on par with the RTX 3070 Ti – and a lot of that will depend on the price after that. Given Nvidia’s current situation, that doesn’t make us optimistic.
On top of that, we should keep in mind that all of these specs are subject to change based on response to the RTX 4070 Ti and 4070, as well as how things go with the mid-range RDNA 3 GPU, of course. It’s likely to be a long time, before the RTX 4060 Ti arrives – the rumor mill certainly doesn’t believe it RTX4060 going out until the middle of 2023 – and Nvidia still has a large amount of RTX 3000 inventory to liquidateAs we all know, there are certainly a lot of things in the mid-range segment.
So with that long time frame the possibility of the RTX 4060 Ti and 4060 appearing, even if these to be specs across the board right now, we’d be surprised if they didn’t change over time based on the factors mentioned and changing GPU landscape.
