NSA Doval meets Putin in Moscow, discusses India-Russia strategic partnership | India News

NEW DELHI: National Security Adviser Ajit Doval met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow and the two held “broad discussions on bilateral and regional issues”, Indian Embassy in Russia write on Twitter.
They “agreed to continue working towards the realization of the India-Russia strategic partnership,” it added.
The meeting comes amid the ongoing crisis in Ukraine following the Russian attack last February.
On Wednesday, Doval attended the fifth multilateral meeting of the Security Council/NSA Secretaries on Afghanistan hosted by Russia.
“We are also worried about attempts to use the situation in Afghanistan to allow forces outside the region to expand or build up their infrastructure,” Putin said, according to the Kremlin.
Doval in his speech said no country should be allowed to use Afghan territory for the export of terrorism and asserted that India will never abandon the Afghan people when they need it.
His visit to Russia comes three months after Foreign Minister S Jaishankar arrived in the country, during which time the two sides announced they would expand economic cooperation, including the import of petroleum products from Russia. India.
India’s oil exports from Russia have jumped since the Ukraine war broke out, even as some Western nations sanctioned Russia and cut economic and trade commitments.
India’s defense cooperation with Russia also looks solid, with the head of BrahMos saying that Western sanctions against Moscow will have no impact.

BrahMos Aerospace is a joint venture between India and Russia, specializing in the production of hypersonic missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
India has yet to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and still insists that the crisis must be resolved through diplomacy and dialogue. India abstained from several UN resolutions condemning Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.
Doval’s visit to Moscow also comes ahead of a meeting of G-20 foreign ministers in New Delhi.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is expected to travel to India to attend the meeting on March 1 and 2.
