Nothing responds to Phone screen brightness controversy (1)
For those unaware, the Phone (1) was originally introduced to offer a maximum brightness of 1200 nits, which is a good deal for a smartphone in this price range. However, after a few weeks since launch, the company has changed the brightness metric to 700 nits of maximum brightness.
In a statement provided to Android Authority, the company mentioned that “Hardware is capable of peaking brightness up to 1,200 nits, but this is currently limited to 700 nits by software.”
The statement added, “This decision was made to ensure a balanced user experience in terms of temperature and battery consumption. We look forward to hearing from users on this and will be monitoring feedback closely to understand if this issue should be addressed in future software updates. ”
There is also nothing that provides more details about the brightness level of the Phone screen (1) for Android Authority. Accordingly, this phone can achieve 500 nits of brightness at normal brightness levels. However, with Auto brightness, it will achieve a maximum brightness of 700 nits. 700 to 1200 nits is said to be a special mode for Phones (1), which is currently unavailable due to software limitations.
It’s good that nothing explains the whole brightness ‘game’ going on with Phone (1). However, it still doesn’t explain the reasoning behind limiting brightness levels if the hardware is capable of providing it.
