Not keen on becoming Congress president: Kamal Nath | India News


NEW DELHI: Madhya Pradesh Parliamentary chief of staff Kamal Nath on Wednesday said he does not want to run for party chief because he wants to focus on parliamentary elections scheduled for next year.
Speaking at a press conference, the former prime minister of Madhya Pradesh said that the elections for Conference the president’s post is being kept because Rahul Gandhi refused to join the party’s reins.
“I spoke to Rahul Gandhi and urged him to run to end all this (the uproar is going on.) I told him things were getting complicated. But he did. said he didn’t want to be party chairman,” Nath told reporters.
When asked why he did not want to run for the top position in the party, Nath said he went to Delhi and told the speaker of the National Assembly. Sonia Gandhi that he will not leave Madhya Pradesh when the council elections are only 12 months away.
Kamal Nath also declined to comment on the happenings in Rajasthan and said he did not want to participate.
Meanwhile, Parliament has been making announcements about Gehlot loyalists – senior state ministers Shanti Dhariwal and Mahesh Joshi (also the chief whip) – for the boycott, accusing them of wronging the MLAs. In addition, Dharmendra Rathore, Chairman of Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation, is accused of arranging logistics for the boycott.
Congress is also keeping its “Plan B” ready, with several returning veterans in dispute – Mallikarjun Kharge, Digvijaya Singh, Kumari Selja, Mukul Wasnik, Meira Kumar.
