She said she still feels the pain of the loss.
“Melbourne was an emotional day for me in that last game, we didn’t win the match,” Shafali recalls.
“When I joined the U19 team, I just thought, ‘you know, we have to win this Cup.’ I just want to say to all the girls, ‘We have to win this Cup, we’re here for the Cup’.
“We lost the World Cup and those were tears of grief. Today, they were tears of happiness because we achieved what we came here to.
“I tried to control it but it just couldn’t happen. I will take this as a big achievement and find a way to use it to learn something more. I will try to score more goals for India. Do and I will not be satisfied with this Cup. This is just the beginning.”

India won its first ICC title in women’s cricket as a group of energetic and talented teenagers lifted the inaugural Under-19 World Championship with an impressive seven-stroke win over England.
The India U-19 team led by Shafali Verma managed to do what their seniors failed to do by overcoming the final hurdle in a global event.
India first overcame England with a score of 68 in 17.1 rounds and then went back to knocking the tiny target in 14 rounds to lift the coveted trophy.
India captain Shafali credited the support staff for all that effort.
India’s bowling alley, led by tempo Titas Sadhu, set up an all-out victory on Sunday as they beat England with a clinical performance at Senwes Park.
Sadhu shows that Indian women’s speed bowling is in safe hands after Jhulan Goswami’s retirement with impressive numbers of 4-0-6-2.
Swing runner Parshavi Chopra continued her dream run as she grabbed two 13s and assisted Sadhu.
Archana Devi also splits 2 to 17, while Mannat Kashyap (13/1), Shafali (16/16) and Sonam Yadav (1/3) each take a point as England are all at sea after being asked take the first strike.
