South Korea’s military said Sunday, a day after the top US envoy left Seoul, North Korea fired at least one ballistic missile towards the sea off its east coast.

Seoul’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said North Korea fired an “unidentified” missile, without elaborating.

In recent weeks, North Korea has test-fired a series of missiles, including its largest intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).

US Special Representative Sung Kim met his Korean and Japanese counterparts, Kim Gunn and Funakoshi Takehiro, in Seoul on Friday to prepare for “all contingencies” amid signs of North Korea is preparing to conduct its first nuclear test since 2017.
