Nordstrom closing its Canadian stores, cutting 2,500 jobs : NPR
TORONTO — Nordstrom Inc. announced Thursday that it will close all stores in Canada and cut 2,500 jobs as it shuts down operations in the country.
The Seattle-based retailer, which has six Nordstrom stores and seven Nordstrom Rack stores in Canada, will close at the end of June.
Its e-commerce business will shut down on Thursday.
Nordstrom CEO Erik Nordstrom said the company is leaving Canada because it doesn’t see a realistic path to profitability for its business in the country.
The closing is being done through an order from the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario under the Companies Creditors Arrangement Act.
Nordstrom first announced plans to expand to Canada in 2012 and opened its first store in Calgary at the CF Chinook Center in September 2014.
