“Nobody said a word about the PC version,” said the producer of Final Fantasy 16

During the recent Final Fantasy 14 developer live stream, the theme of The Last Fantasy 16PC port appeared. “Nobody said a word about releasing the PC version,” said Yoshi P, producer of both FFXIV and FFXVI. “Why does it look like the PC version will come out in 6 months? Don’t worry about it, buy the PS5!” he said, laughing.
We were in working on the assumption that Final Fantasy 16 will come to PC after a period of PlayStation 5 exclusivity, but to be fair, that’s what the Final Fantasy 16 trailers said would happen.
FF16 trailer reveal says it’s “a PlayStation console exclusive”, with an asterisk indicating it’s “available on PC as well”. That seems pretty obvious.
Similar trailers when uploaded on other channels, including on Square Enix, saying it’s “a PlayStation 5 console exclusive” and “not available on other platforms for a limited time after release on PS5.” Than recent trailers Confirming Final Fantasy 16’s June 22, 2023 release date has made it more clear that it’s “not available on other platforms until December 31, 2023”, or about six months after the PlayStation 5’s release.
All of this seems to indicate explicitly or implicitly that a PC release is being released, even if there’s no guarantee exactly when.
To be fair, Yoshi P made his comment in a cheerful tone and ended by saying, “Sorry, I went a bit too far. We did our best so please look forward to it.” But, it’s wrong to say that “nobody said a word about the PC version”, because it was Square Enix that did.
Square Enix has a good track record of bringing their games to PC. For instance, the PlayStation exclusivity of Final Fantasy VII Remake expired in April 2021, and came out on PC in December of that year. Hope FF16 does something similar so Katharine doesn’t get upset.
