Noah Lyles breaks 26-year-old US record to win 200 m
Noah Lyles became world champion in the 200 meters on Thursday night and knocked down one of the longest running US track records in the process.
Lyles, 25, completed her sprint in 19.31 seconds – one hundredth of a second faster than Michael Johnson’s then world record of 19.32 seconds at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Only Jamaican sprinters Usain Bolt (19.19) and Yohan Blake (19.26) have ever run faster in this event.
