Court documents revealed that one of Facebook’s two senior parents Meta Engineers, when talking about how the social media company stores and tracks users’ data, said that he doesn’t believe one employee can aggregate all of any user’s data, according to the company. Reported by The Intercept.
Veteran engineer named Eugene Zarashaw and worked as technical director at Meta. He has over 9 years of experience according to his LinkedIn profile. The other is Steven Elia, whose LinkedIn profile says he’s a software engineering director with 11 years of experience at Facebook.
The interrogation took place in March 2022 in a trial involving Cambridge Analytica scandal of 2018. Although the engineers were questioned in March, the transcript of the trial was only recently sealed, according to the report.
Daniel Garrie, a court-appointed technical expert, led the interrogation. Garrie want to know exactly where is user data kept among “about 55 Facebook subsystems”
“I’m just trying to understand what we’re looking at on this list at the most basic level,” says Garrie.
Eugene Zarashow replied: “I don’t believe a person exists who can answer that question. It would take a considerable amount of team effort to be able to answer that question. ”
When asked about how Facebook can track every bit of data associated with a certain user account, Zarashaw was baffled: “It would take multiple groups of advertisers to track exactly where the data flows. via. I would be surprised if even a single person could answer that narrow question unequivocally. “said report

Meta emailed The Intercept its statement in which spokeswoman Dina El-Kassaby told the publication that “it is not surprising that an engineer cannot know where all user data is stored. ”
“We have made – and continue to make, significant investments to meet our privacy commitments and obligations, including extensive data controls,” she added.
