Nintendo just confirmed that the Nintendo Switch won’t be raising prices anytime soon, but doesn’t rule it out entirely.
In its quarterly earnings report, the Kyoto-based company was asked if it saw Nintendo Switch future price increase of the panel. As reported by Bloomberg, Takashi Mochizuki, Nintendo responded that it currently has no plans to do so. However, it will consider its options going forward, not essentially ruling out the possibility of future price increases.
This slightly changes what Nintendo said just a few months ago. In August, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa emphasized the company sought to “avoid setting a higher price on people” even though demand outstrips supply.

So should we expect a Nintendo Switch price hike?
Nintendo’s recent statement echoes that of Xbox boss Phil Spencer who is similar price increase will not be ruled out Because Xbox Series X| S console in the future. As it stands, Sony is the only major console maker to raise prices, with PS5 price increase in some regions.
However, there is a silver lining in Nintendo’s earnings report. The fact that it is holding back the price increase of the Nintendo Switch so far is a good sign for Black Friday 2022. And while we can’t say for sure yet that we’ll be heavily discounting the console, we can expect it to not suddenly increase in price before the end of the year.
Another reason why Nintendo could pour cold water on the price increase is the potential existence of a Nintendo Switch Pro remote control. Nintendo hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but recently Nvidia email leak hints that the manufacturer is working with Nintendo on a new Switch model.
If true, we expect the Nintendo Switch Pro to be more expensive than the base Switch. In this case, it’s probably in Nintendo’s best interest to keep the base Switch at its current retail price while charging more for the Pro model, as it did with Nintendo Switch OLED.
Hopefully we won’t see a Nintendo Switch price hike anytime soon. But with ongoing supply issues, it may be only a matter of time before Nintendo decides to pull the trigger.
