Nikki Glaser is excited to host the Golden Globes: “I worked my butt off for this”
Nikki Glaser is wasting time preparing for his next big performance. After crushing in Tom BradyNetflix’s live baking show This spring, the horse-drawn comedian has arrived was chosen to host the 2025 Golden Globesairs Sunday, January 5, on CBS. With the show just weeks away, Glaser said Vanity fair that she was “absolutely busy” preparing for her big night. “It probably took about two or three and a half weeks to write the jokes and do those jokes on stage, running around LA, doing three or four sets a night,” she said over Zoom. “This weekend I’m on my way to New Hampshire, Vermont and doing a monologue there. I’m in New York right now, went out at the Comedy Cellar last night. Going out again tonight, running two or three times.”
All that preparation time makes Glaser a far cry from last year’s host, Jo Koy-Who, after failing to capture a department or countryblame his relatively short preparation time (only 10 days) because of his poor performance. But Glaser, who was announced as host of the Globes in late August, has no such reason. And she has no intention of needing one either. “I feel nothing but certainty and complete confidence that I can do this,” she said. “I’ve had a few jobs before and I hope I can do this, it has a lot of pressure. This, I was like, Yeah, they picked the right person. No one can work harder than me on this.'”
Glaser knows she’s talking a big game but feels she’s doing her best to be proud of her performance — no matter what. “I wouldn’t be able to say, ‘I should have worked harder,’” she said. “And as long as I can say that, I’m happy with the results. If things don’t go well, there’s nothing I can do about it because I’ve considered every variable. I worked my butt off for this.”
Below, Glaser opens up about preparing for the Golden Globes, serving as both host and nominee, as well as her favorite movies of the year.
Vanity Fair: What have you learned from testing your Globe material on the road?
Nikki Glaser: I’m studying without anyone seeing Emilia Perez and know nothing about it, even though it’s recommended more than anything. I know everyone saw it sinister. No one saw conclave. People are not aware much about bear as I expected.
I’m learning a lot of things, first you have to tell them what it is. I know the people in the room will know what this is all about. But for me to joke about bitch or A complete unknown with people in Vermont and people who are just tourists in New York – they don’t know what those things are. They are not part of the Academy. They are not as understanding. People are just consuming things in a different way. If I refer to The Rizzler or Hawk Tuah Crypto scandaleveryone was present. What we are learning is one tuah hawk References light up the room in a way that one sinister There aren’t even references.
I feel like you’re the perfect woman to reach people who know The Rizzler but may have also seen it Emilia Perez.
I want everyone to see Emilia Perez! I want everyone to enjoy this evening without having to watch it. So my job is to educate them about what this stuff is and maybe even make them want to see it.
I think I’m the perfect person to do this because I’m learning so much in the process. I got to see all these things that I probably wouldn’t have seen before. So now I’m on both sides, thinking, “Oh, shit. This is a really good movie that I probably would have missed if I hadn’t been asked to host and forced to watch this movie.”
More people need to see it conclave. It’s my favorite movie ever. I can’t believe I fell asleep watching this movie. I don’t think I would be interested in a movie about choosing the next pope. I don’t think anything could make me enthusiastic about the Catholic Church. I told my boyfriend, who grew up Catholic and had only heard me say really bad things about the Catholic Church—like, “I think I agree.”
The Golden Globes hosting gig has been pretty rough over the past few years. Jerrod Carmichael polarized. Last year, Jo Koy is a failed city. Are you thinking about other servers?
