The new version is NicoNico Douga (Re: Temporary). You will only be able to watch popular videos from 2007 but Dwango plans to add more videos later. NicoNico has released one videotapes apologize and explain the situation. The official blog and Dwango’s website also goes into more detail. To summarize, a cyberattack is a large-scale attack that involves the use of ransomware. Dwango delayed notifying the public about the ransomware because programmers wanted to ensure the servers were relatively secure. This is to not provoke the attacker to move on to the next step. Dwango has taken steps to ensure accounts are safe and network security is stronger. But it will continue to monitor the situation and adjust these security measures as necessary. Although the data on the video is fine, Dwango has not confirmed whether anyone took personal information. This includes information about credit card numbers and passwords.
As for when NicoNico will return, it could take more than a month. In the meantime, people can use the new NicoNico Douga page above. Dwango will compensate those who pay membership fees or insurance premiums for a period of two months. The NicoNico Manga app will return in June 2024.
