‘NHL 22’ adds female teams for the first time


A week before the Winter Olympics, EA added women’s teams to its NHL games for the first time. You can now choose from one of the 10 national teams of the International Women’s Ice Hockey Federation in : Canada, Czech Republic (Czech), Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Russia, Switzerland and of course, Team USA.

EA also introduced the IIHF Men’s and World Juniors teams to NHL 22. As well as competing in IIHF World Championship tournaments, Boys and Girls teams can play in Play Now, Head-to-head Online, Threes Now and Offline/Online Shootouts modes. EA last month.

NHL 12 (released in 2011) was the first game in the series where the player could go to virtual ice as a woman, as long as they created an iceberg themselves. The following year, Canadian hockey pioneer Hayley Wickenheiser and American defense player Angela Ruggiero (who could join any team in NHL 13) the first truly playable female hockey players in the franchise, but it would be nearly a decade before EA could fully add female teams.

The NHL series is following the other major sports series in adding more women’s teams. EA has included them in its FIFA games , while 2K Games introduces WNBA to NBA 2K .
