NFL Sunday Ticket’s DirecTV era will launch with a groan.

This is the final season where the satellite TV company will hold the exclusive rights to the NFL’s early screenings. So far, DirecTV’s final season is leaving an indelible mark for all the wrong reasons. The product does not function properly during Week 1 or Week 2.

Even though DirecTV is known as a company that manufactures satellite dishes, you don’t have to make one of those appointments and wait hours for a technician to come and install the dishes. The company now offers its product as a streaming service, a YouTube TV channel. Of course Sunday Tickets are still an expensive add-on and online customers don’t get their money’s worth.

A Twitter scroll on Sunday at the start of this NFL season will reveal many complaints with the DirecTV handle being tagged. Sunday Ticket does not work at all for quite a few streaming customers, or performs very poorly. The company has released a apology and promised to compensate customers for inconvenience.

Early in Week 3, it looked like DirecTV’s streaming division still needed some work. Once again, social media was abuzz with criticism. Yet another American Sunday far and wide is being ruined.

Beginning in 2023, one of the heavyweights in the streaming wars will host Sunday Ticket. So far, the first runner is Apple. With Ted Lasso, Quit, Morningand Sunday Ticket, Apple is giving Amazon everything it can handle in its quest for world domination.

It’s been a test run for DirecTV since 1994 with Sunday Ticket, but like all traditional TV providers, technology is taking their toll. That being said, the company should go out better than this. Their standout product was the Sunday Ticket and in this final season they did such a poor job that it went viral continuously.

Let’s show some pride, DirecTV! Leave everyone a good feeling on the way out. Don’t end up like Ben Roethlisberger with the public glad to see you gone. It’s been almost 30 years. Don’t you all want people to reminisce about their legendary escape the way they did with John Elway? Think of your legacy.. This is your last chance.

Plus, save your company’s future. Offering your product as a streaming service is a good idea. I don’t have to buy anything in the house and I can get a basic live TV package for $49.99/month. That would be a tempting offer, if not for the fact that the product was trashed on social media for most of September.

Get it together. There are only 17 Sundays each year of regular season NFL football. For most sports fans in this country, it’s like celebrating Christmas once a week for a third of the year. Don’t ruin the whole family’s Christmas because of that guy. Take care of people and do something that can help your company have a future in this new scattered television world.
