NFL declines to comment on Aaron Rodgers MVP voting controversy

Hub Arkush generates controversy and quite a bit of anger Tuesday when he told Chicago sports radio station 670 The Score, he wouldn’t choose Green Bay Packers quarterback and reigning NFL Player of the Year Aaron Rodgers as this season’s MVP because he considers Rodgers to be ” biggest jerk in the league” instead of “serious field” reason.

Some fans, analysts and writers have called for the Associated Press and/or the NFL to strip Arkush of voting privileges. Each Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the league was not ready to address the issue as of Wednesday morning.

“This is one of the Associated Press’s annual awards,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy wrote in an emailed statement. “It was announced during the NFL Honors program but the league does not select voters or oversee any element of the process so we are not appropriate to comment.”

In another work, Florio note Arkush admitted during Wednesday’s appearance on 670 The Score he had “made a big mistake” in revealing his intentions to the public.

“It was on me,” Arkush explained of the decision. “I was wrong… All you can do is own it, and I own it.”

Previously, Arkush told the station:

“But one of the ways we get to continue being voters is that we’re not allowed to say who we’re voting for until the award is announced. I’m probably pushing the envelope by saying that I don’t vote for anyone. But we don’t really have to disclose our votes.”

It’s unclear if Arkush will continue to vote AP for MVP after the current season.
