NFL coach: Dak Prescott won’t suddenly become ‘more special’

In his ninth year rank ranking of NFL quarterbacks, Mike Sando of The Athletic puts six signal callers into Level 1: Aaron Rodgers (Packer), Patrick Mahomes (Head), Tom Brady (Buccaneers), Josh Allen (Bills), Justin Herbert (Charger) and Joe Burrow (Bengals). Sando’s ranking reflects votes from NFL coaches and executives, who remain anonymous in exchange for candor. The first level includes the best QB, the fifth level is the worst.

According to Sando, a Level 1 QB is someone who “can carry his team every week. The team won because of him. He mastered pure passing situations. He has no real holes in his game.”

Allen, Herbert and Burrow entered Tier 1 for the first time, ahead of seventh year Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, who was placed in Tier 2 by Sando and ranked 11thorder.

Sando has defined a level 2 midfielder as someone who “can sometimes carry his team but not consistently. He can handle pure passing situations with dosages and/or possesses other dimensions that are distinctive enough to elevate him above Level 3. He has a hole or two in his game. . “

“He is a solid player. Really solid,” one head coach told Sando about Prescott. “He’s not going to change and suddenly become something more special.”

“I don’t think there was a big hole in his game, but I’m not sure if he really hit the upper hand,” said one defensive coach. “I think he’s a very healthy person, a plus 2. He never really made that leap.”

A quarterback coach placed Prescott in Tier 1, calling his footwork “perfect”.

Dallas opens the season on September 11 at home to Tampa Bay and Tier 1 QB Brady. The Cowboys haven’t competed in the Super Bowl since 1996.
