Newlyweds escape war in Afghanistan and start life in America

- Seven months later, the couple is resettling and trying to figure out life in a new country.

INDIANAPOLIS – Sulaman and Arzo Akbarzada battled the bone-chilling February cold and trudged through ankle-deep snow to catch a bus Monday morning, then another and then an Uber, all to go to a bakery in the warehouse to make bagels.
Navigating the sidewalks that still hadn’t been cleared, Arzo relied on Sulaman for support. They huddled for their coats, guided by fluorescent streetlights and the glow of a map on his phone.
