New Windows Updates Could Damage Your Task Manager
From performance monitoring to ending unresponsive programs, many Windows users will find themselves in Task Manager at some point – but an update for 11 . window can now pose a problem.
Users with the KB5020044 preview for Windows 11 22H2 may be affected with an issue that renders the Task Manager interface unreadable, although Microsoft is quick to emphasize that this is purely cosmetic and still work.
Company posted on website (opens in a new tab) that “After installing KB5020044, Task Manager may display certain elements of the user interface (UI) with unexpected colors. On affected devices, the Task Manager will work as expected, but some parts of the user interface may not be readable.”
Windows 11 Task Manager Issues
Microsoft explains that affected users may have a custom mode set up in the Personalization > Colors menu, and users whose mode is set to Dark or Light will not be affected.
So Microsoft recommends that, for now, at least, users should choose a Dark or Light theme for the Task Manager to display correctly. While no timeframe has been given for a fix, the company is aware of the issue and hopes to address it in the next release.
Many users, including most businesses who want to maintain a stable build of the operating system, will not be affected by this issue. It only concerns people who have manually downloaded optional updates in Windows Insider builds.
