Another new model has been added VolkswagenID of electricity line up according to the shape of the VW ID. Buzz. The newcomer is a MPV based on the same platform as ID.3 electric hatchback, but rather than being an upgraded version of that car, it draws nostalgic design inspiration from the VW Type 2 or the Beetle-based Bulli.
Since it uses the same device running as ID.3, ID. The Buzz has a 201bhp electric motor driving the rear wheels, while a 77kWh battery pack is fitted. VW has not confirmed the driving range for the ID. Buzz just yet, but we expect a range of about 250 miles.
There’s 170kW of onboard charging, so the battery can be charged from five to 80 percent capacity in 30 minutes from a sufficiently powerful DC source. Furthermore, ID. The Buzz will come with two-way charging as standard, so not only can you charge your car at home, but you can also feed power from the battery back into the grid.
Production version of ID. The Buzz remains largely unchanged from the concepts we’ve seen since 2017. It’s a fairly standard one-box MPV shape with a horizontal windshield, while VW claims a drag coefficient of 0.29Cd. to help increase efficiency.
It’s the details that make it stand out. Up front is a slender LED headlight cluster with an elongated light bar connected to a large VW badge in the middle, below is a mesh grille design for the lower air intake. Sliding side doors are featured, while the rear pillars use a three-bar design motif.
At the rear is a full-length tailgate with slim lights across the entire width of the rear. The two-tone color scheme in the first official photos will be offered as an option, with the bodywork in yellow, orange, blue or green underneath the white upper.
In general, the ID. Buzz is relatively compact. At 4,712mm long, it’s 192mm shorter than T6 Caravelle, but has a wheelbase of 2,988mm, almost identical to the T6. This helps maximize space for passengers, but while the concepts feature smart sliding and swiveling seats, the ID. The Buzz has the usual five-seat layout in a 2-3 configuration. Even so, the rear seats split 60:40 and slide to maximize legroom or cargo space, and there’s 1,121 liters of luggage space in the five-seat mode. The rear bench folds flat and up to 2,205 liters is offered.
Go for the two-tone exterior and the cabin will have the same color theme, though we’ll have to wait and see how well keeping the white steering wheel and upholstery looks good. Practical touches include up to eight USB-C charging sockets throughout the cabin, while a new innovation is the ‘Buzz Box’. This is a center storage bin that sits between the front seats and features a top compartment for an ice bottle scraper and opener, a bottle holder and a large 5-litre drawer for bulky items.
Another cabin innovation is the removal of leather upholstery. The steering wheel is upholstered with a synthetic alternative, while the carpet and seat fabric both have varying levels of recycled plastic inside. It’s part of VW’s purpose to create IDs. Buzz carbon neutral all the way from production to delivery.
There is a lot of technology on board ID. Buzz, and most of it was ported from ID.3 and ID.4. There’s a 5.4-inch Virtual Cockpit driving display, while a 10- or 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system is centrally mounted on the dashboard. As with other ID models, touch-sensitive climate control, while wireless Apple CarPlay and Android AutoOnline connectivity and voice control all features.
Producing IDs. Buzz starts later this year, with the first deliveries in the fall. Final pricing and specifications will be announced closer to the vehicle’s on-sale date.
