New special edition Ford Bronco Everglades designed for off-road fun

Ford launched another special edition version of Bronco that will soon follow 400bhp Bronco Raptor into galleries. This one is called the Ford Bronco Everglades, and it’s specifically designed for people who want to go green.

Like the standard model, the Bronco Everglades are only officially available in the United States for now, as an exclusive add-on to those who have pre-ordered them. Prices start at $54,495, or about £40,000 in the UK.

However, the importer Clive Sutton recently announced that it has started 4×4 shipping across the Atlantic Ocean – so there could still be a job for UK buyers who want to get their hands on one, provided they’re willing to accept a skewed steering wheel.

Upgrade from the standard Ford Bronco include new 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in knobby Goodyear mud all-terrain tires, a steel underbody guard and rock rails designed to prevent the bottom door from being damaged during off-road driving. The dark gray grille is also unique to the Everglades version.

Buyers also get wider wheel arches than the standard Bronco to cover wider wheels and tires, and there’s a removable hardtop with integrated roof rack included as part of the deal. However, the biggest change from the standard 4×4 is at the front, with Ford fitting a new Safari bar and a winch to the bumper that is rated to tow 10,000lb (or 4.5 tonnes).

Ford engineers also designed a new type of snorkel air intake, which was attached to the Bronco’s A-pillar. It features two interchangeable panels that change the path of the intake to help keep out dust and water depending on weather conditions. So air entering the engine can be made to move through the rear of the intake, which is useful when going straight into a downpour.

To complement the taller air intake, Ford increased the height of the vents on the front and rear axles, transmission and transmission for the Everglades version. Combined, these changes mean the Bronco can now wade through water nearly a meter deep.

Like the standard model, the Bronco Everglades is powered by a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 296 hp and 441 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels.
