New Skoda Kamiq set for mid-life refresh

Testing is well underway for the upcoming upgrade Skoda Kamiq and while the Czech company’s sub-SUV won’t change too much under the surface, we can already see a lot of design tweaks although the camouflage on this prototype has been spied on by photographers. Our detection.

The Kamiq compact SUV launched in 2019, following the family-sized Kodiaq and mid-size Karoq – both of which have received mid-life updates. Upgraded Kamiq will keep the same MQB A0 platform as Volkswagen T-Cross, SEAT Arona and latest Skoda Fabia supermini when it goes on sale in 2023.

The engine line-up will be retained with a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder TSI petrol that kicks off the 94bhp or 109bhp power range. On it we will see a 1.5-liter, four-cylinder TSI petrol with a capacity of 148 hp. The diesel option went on sale last year and is unlikely to return with an upgrade. Like the new Fabia, we won’t see any electrified powertrains as the platform doesn’t contain them.

There will be some key differences to the new Kamiq in terms of design. The slim headlights will be moved, but the secondary unit below will be changed. There’s also a revised grille that can be combined with new inserts, reshaped air intakes and a tweaked lower grille at the front. Kamiq’s bulging center section of the bonnet remains.

The upgraded Skoda Kamiq will remain unchanged along the sides until you reach the rear lights, which will carry the new C-Shape design seen on the new version Fabia. The bumper and roof spoiler will also receive a slight tweak.

The overall design of the cabin won’t change too much in the upgraded Kamiq, with top models featuring a 9.2-inch central infotainment touchscreen. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will become standard and same as last year’s upgrade KaroqKamiq will be able to receive updates over the air.

The current Kamiq is offered in three trim levels. The cheapest SE model starts at £22,080 and we can expect the updated Kamiq to take a hit from this price tag. At the top of the range should be a Monte Carlo version with larger alloys and black exterior trim features.
