New Renault Duster price, India launch details and more

Three new India-specific models, a new Triber-based Nissan MPV have also been confirmed.

renaultNISSAN announced their future product plans for India after a long time. Both brands have started working to introduce three new models for the Indian market. As we reported earlier, this new Indian product plan will be backed by an investment of around Rs 4,000 crore ($500 million) as reported by our sister publication Autocar Professional several months before.

  1. The new Duster will also be a derivative of Nissan
  2. Nissan will also have a Triber-based MPV for India
  3. Entry-level EV also confirmed for India

New Renault Duster here in 2024-2025

The all-new Duster for India will be an undisclosed third-generation SUV. The one sold in India between 2013 and 2020 is the first generation Duster. India does not have a second generation of the SUV currently on sale.

The third generation Duster that will be here in 2025 will be an all-new SUV built on the heavily localized CMF-B modular platform. The platform is expected to feature many future models from both Renault and Nissan. The first derivative on this platform other than the Duster will be an all-new SUV that will be sold by Nissan. This new SUV could borrow heavily from the next-generation Duster and will likely be in the same line as the Duster-Terrano duo that was sold in India earlier.

The new Duster will essentially be a production version of the previously introduced Dacia Bigster concept. The SUV will come in five and most likely seven-seat versions. Both SUVs will provide some new competition for Creta, Seltos, Taigun, Grand Vitara, Hyryder, Alcazar and even Hector Plus.

The CMF-B platform will be cleverly retooled for India and other low-cost markets, eliminating non-essential components, while keeping everything future-proof. This means it will comply with current and upcoming safety standards, and will support electrification, including hybrid and EV powertrains, on which the upcoming M0 platform already underpins for models like Duster, Terrano, Captur, Lodgy, and even Kicks that weren’t possible before.

Renault Triber to spawn a Nissan derivative

Nissan will introduce an all-new MPV in India, based on the popular Renault Triber based on the CMF-A+ platform. This MPV will help Nissan increase customer base at stores that currently only sell Magnite SUVs.

A-segment EV confirmed for India

Both brands will also introduce an all-new entry-level EV based on the CMF-AEV platform. This model will also be sold in the Latin American market. Renault already sells a Kwid-based EV called the Kwid E-Tech in markets like Brazil among others.

India will be an important market for Renault Nissan in the future

India is expected to be an important market for the Renault-Nissan alliance not only for domestic sales but also for exports. As we reported in the August 2022 issue of Autocar India, Renault has left Russia after the invasion of Ukraine and India is set to reap the benefits of doing so, with every investment planned. The previous plan is currently being reallocated. Furthermore, Renault also left China a few years ago, which means that India becomes a higher priority.
