A new portrait of Queen Elizabeth‘S has been released the day before her state funeral – and the 96-year-old woman paid tribute to her late father King George VI. She wore a stunning set of pearls and diamond brooch gifted to her by her father for her 18th birthday in April 1944, in the image shared by Buckingham Palace on Sunday, September 18. The longest-reigning monarch in British history shows off her signature smile in this photo, taken in May 2022 shortly after her 96th birthday at the Castle Windsor radio. The image has been sent to celebrating her Platinum Jubilee.
“Ahead of the Queen’s Funeral, a new photo has been released,” an official Royal Instagram account read the caption. “This year is taken to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, as she becomes the first British monarch to achieve the milestone. Tomorrow, millions of people will come together to commemorate her memorable life.”
This pair of brooches is in an art deco design and is the creation of French luxury jeweler Boucheron. The exquisite works include stones cut in circles, ovals and breadboards, which reflect light in a unique way. She has been seen wearing the sentimental accessories several times over the years, including in a series of other photoshoots released in February 2022 to celebrate marks her 70 years on the throne. Her father – who was known to family and close friends as Bertie – passed away at the age of 56 in February 1952.
She wears a powder blue dress in the subtle photo, which accentuates the blue shade in the brooches. The Queen completed her ensemble with two of her favorite pieces of jewelry: a three-strand pearl necklace regularly worn by the Royal Family, as well as a set of pearl earrings.
The two are also very affectionate towards her: the necklace was a gift from her late grandfather King George WU to mark his Silver Jubilee in 1935 when she was nine years old, every Queen’s Jewelry Authors Leslie’s field. The poignant book also notes that she comes in two nearly identical styles: one she ordered from graduating family pearls and another that was gifted to her 1953 coronation with a Diamond brooch from Queen of Qatar.
Queen Elizabeth also appears to be wearing the diamond and pearl teardrop earrings she wore for her own Silver Celebration in 1977.
Both necklaces and earrings have appeared in recent days like Kate Middleton wear even in memory of her late grandmother. The newly named Princess of Wales, 40, was photographed wearing these tops during a reception for the governors of the Commonwealth of Nations at Buckingham Palace on Saturday, 17th. September.
Queen Elizabeth passed away at the age of 96 on Thursday, September 8 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland – just two days later she appoints the newly elected prime minister Liz Truss. The UK and Commonwealth entered a 10-day period of mourning shortly thereafter, which included prayers for her descendants, as well as four days of “lying in state” for the public to line up and display show respect. She will be honored with an official state funeral on Monday, September 19 at Westminster Abbey.
