New Peugeot e-308 to launch in 2023 with new electric powertrain

A new all-electric version of Peugeot 308 will launch next year, called the e-308. It will supplement Peugeot’developing EV range with familiar people hatchback and asset but Peugeot decided to give it a completely new battery.

The upcoming E-308 will sit on the Stellantis EMP2 platform, along with Vauxhall Astra-e. It’s the same technology we’ve seen underpinning things like 508 bar, 3008 SUV and of course 308 models of internal combustion engines. With the arrival of the e-308, Peugeot’s family hatchback will become the first car in the Stellantis group to be offered with an internal combustion engine, Dip into the mixture or pure electricity power, when it arrives in June 2023.

Peugeot also says the e-308’s new battery will have a new chemistry and claims to be able to achieve a range of over 248 miles. The power provided by the electric motor is also greater e-208 and e-2008 can deliver 156 hp and 260 Nm of torque. An energy usage of 12.7 kWh per 100Km has been announced for the e-308 as it recharges from 20 to 80% in under 25 minutes (using a 100kW charger).

Peugeot has updated most of its lineup this year with new Active Premium+ and Allure Premium+ trim levels, and we expect a similar range structure for the e-308 in 2023. The -308 will come with a choice of drive modes (Eco, Normal , Sport). The ‘Brake’ button increases the activity of the brake regenerative system to restore more energy to the battery.

Inside, the e-308 will feel similar to its internal combustion counterparts with Peugeot’s i-Cockpit featuring a central 10-inch touchscreen, i-Toggles and a compact steering wheel.

However, electric technology will increase the price. Currently, gasoline is the cheapest 308 starts at £24,385, but the electric version can cost up to £34,000 by the time it arrives in UK showrooms. The gap between the cheapest petrol and electric versions of the smaller version 208 currently sitting at around £9,600 so we expect similar gains for the 308 as it enters the fray with the likes of Volkswagen ID.3 and Cupra was born.
