20th Century Studios has announced that there will be a new Planet of the Apes entering production in October. The film, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, stars Owen Teague (It), Freya Allen (The) Witcher) and Peter Macon (The Orville) and directed by Wes Ball (The Maze Runner trilogy).
“Kingdom” is the beginning of a brand new season of the Planet of the Apes saga, following years after the end of War for the Planet of the Apes 2017. The script was written by Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds). 2005), Apes alumni Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, and Patrick Aison (Prey).
The studio released a single image along with the announcement showing an ape on horseback that has also learned to falconry, riding on a mossy cityscape. It’s unknown how long the period from Kingdom to War will be, but it seems to be at least a decade.
The recent trilogy that saw the rise of ape leader Caesar, who was only mentioned and almost deified in the original 1968 film Planet of the Apes, offered an origin story about how apes evolved and wars with humans. It also gives the backstory to the character Nova played by Linda Harrison in the original and Amiah Miller in “War”.
