It’s bad enough for any organization to protect a member at the expense of a victim, it’s also all too common. We’ve seen it in sports, in the NFL with Washington commanders and USA Gymnastics with Larry Nassar. We watched it on television with Fox News and Bill O’Reilly and Roger Ailes. We’ve seen it in finance, music, medicine, and anywhere else an organization is more concerned with protecting those it deems valuable than the victims.

It is therefore no surprise that Houston Texas residents being sued for being complicit in the actions of Deshaun Watson have resulted in 24 sexual misconduct lawsuits, four of which remain unresolved. One of the four remaining accusers filed a lawsuit against the Texan this morning, alleging that the group enabled Watson’s conduct.

Some details attest to what The New York Times’ Jenny Vrentas report In early June, the Texans offered a hotel room to Watson and also gave he signed NDAs with women who gave him massages after one threatened to go public with some of his behavior.

Genuine Touch is a massage therapy group contracted to work with Texans. The owner of the group, Joni Honn, is said to have expressed concern for the Texans in June 2020 that Watson was touting unlicensed massage therapy on Instagram, as it made him vulnerable to lawsuits, and at the time, it was during the COVID-19 pandemic.

That’s not to say Watson always avoids working with the Texas massage group. According to the lawsuit, some of his behavior with Genuine Touch is similar to what has been described in the past. Allegedly, Watson preferred to wear a small scarf instead of his usual gown, and was accused of once ejaculating during a work session after “hugging the table”. Houston Police Detective Kamesha Baker said in her presentation that Honn claimed Watson used the “turban trick” on two True Touch therapists.

When one of the people solicited by Watson on Instagram threatened to reveal him on social media, the lawsuit says, the Texan provided an NDA to Watson in order for him to contract with massage therapists, which Watson confirmed when he was deposed. In addition, the Texans allegedly cleaned up the masseuse’s post from the Internet. Their head coach, Roland Ramirez, is said to have received a number of complaints from the Houstonian, the hotel where Texans are paying Watson’s rent, about the number of women who come to his room.

As reported by the New York Times, and as is now alleged in a lawsuit, the Texans knew about what Watson was doing. The lawsuit claims they provided him with a room for him to do private massages allegedly being aware of something amiss. And they had a group of licensed massage therapists that they paid to work with their players. The Texan is also said to have helped him try to avoid embarrassment and litigation when someone felt she was publicly threatened by Watson. Furthermore, workers from the Texas licensed massage therapy group allege they knew about Watson tryin to turn therapy sessions into sexual gratification.

Watson, who settled 20 of the 24 lawsuits against him, has denied any wrongdoing.

If the allegations are true, Texans have no problem turning a blind eye to highly unusual behavior and allegations of sexual misconduct, but when faced with a young team full of prospects, they fired so badly that after all they’ve done to appease Watson, he’s still asking for a trade. Before we knew about the supposed double life Watson was living, the public was on his side about wanting to leave Houston.

“We learned about the lawsuit brought against us today,” the Texan said in a statement. “As of March 2021, we have fully supported and complied with law enforcement and various investigations. We will continue to take the necessary steps to address the allegations against our organization.”

The Texans are said to have traded their best player at DeAndre Hopkins, while eliminating and mismanaging their squad – a team that has won four championships in five seasons – so bad Even JJ “Captain America” Watt himself asked to be removed from the team at the same time for the same reason that Watson wanted to be traded.

So what will the public ultimately judge Texans for? The product they put on the pitch that they proved hopelessly incompetent to manage? Or the accusations that they have failed in front of countless victims to protect a promising young superstar QB? Don’t forget, Texans have had their own problems with their cheerleaderowner Cal McNair’s Racist Statements about COVID. And now, they are believed to have played a key role in enabling Deshaun Watson to mass sexually assault women. They failed in grand fashion.

So aside from building the first retractable covered stadium in the NFL, Houston Texas has proven itself incapable of creating anything other than shame. Now they are right where they need to be, answering questions with Watson who is no longer on their list.
