Last year, the Queen looked radiant in pink as she inspected the Honor Guard and met the Royal Regiment Mascot of Scotland, Shetland Pony Lance Corporal Cruachan IV.

The monarch usually stays at Balmoral until early October, with a formal ceremony marking the beginning of her stay.

But this year, she will attend a private event on the lawn of the castle grounds.

The Queen will inspect troops as usual, but no television cameras, photographers or reporters will be present at the event.

A source said: ‘The Queen is not expecting the new Prime Minister to come to Scotland, so the plan is for the Queen to go down to meet them.

Balmoral is understood to be the Queen’s favorite stay, who welcomes her family to the castle during the summer months.

She has been staying at Craigowan Lodge since leaving Windsor Castle for Scotland on July 21.
